Plowing the Ground
"No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back,
is fit for the kingdom of God." - Luke 9:62"
Who are the great possibility thinkers of all time?
Would you name the space scientists who put a man on the moon?
Certainly they qualify.
But throughout the ages, I contend that the greatest possibility
thinkers are the farmers.
I recall my father's plowing the ground in Iowa. Plowing was a great
commitment. Once the ground was broken and prepared, the precious seed
I remember my grandfather telling me how virgin prairies were originally
broken into cultivated farmland in the mid-western states of America.
The pioneer tied a red handkerchief to a long stake and hammered it in
the ground. Then he retraced his steps, put his hands to the plow, and
with his eyes firmly fixed on the red flag, he commanded his oxen or his
horses to pull! Never once did he look back; otherwise he would plow a
Can you imagine the faith it took for that farmer to keep looking ahead
without turning for a moment to see how well he was doing?
People who reach their goal are the ones who keep pressing forward until
they reach a point when God allows them to pause long enough to see how
the Lord has blessed them! It all begins to add up, doesn't it? Faith
works because it keeps your eye firmly fixed on your goal.
Keep the faith...keep looking ahead!
